In my head, an image. It glows. A flash across the night sky. And another. It spreads like the northern lights in polar cold. And another. Postcards of my travels. Stations. Fellow travellers.

Tinka — traveller, photographer, mother, woman, everywoman — strings together vivid scenic images: with her we admire the view in Nepal, live through a robbery in Venezuela, chat with an Iranian woman, listen to an argument on the London Underground, peer over the wall into Palestine, walk along the Great Wall of China… and in the monologues between, we reflect on the learned fear of difference, and on the more intimate fear that torments modern people before sleep.

As a counterpoint to Tinka's postcards stands the historical vertical of white appropriation of the world, in the parodic scenes of the Conqueror and his Squire, where through historical references (Columbus, Cortés, Hitler, and so on) we sail to today's puppet politicians and new colonialisms. The final building block of the mosaic structure is the monologues of the (otherwise mute) witnesses to (in)human acts: an Eagle Feather with the experience of America's natives, a Tree from the killing fields of Cambodia, Oil from the Middle East, the Old Bridge from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a Camera that — here and now — questions responsibility and power. Of the individual, and of the artist.
